Tsitsipas isn't happy about the Roman hecatomb:

Tsitsipas isn't happy about the Roman hecatomb: "Things like this hurt our sport a little bit"

It's no secret that the Rome Masters 1000 was a surprise in terms of results. After the withdrawals of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the world's No.2 and No.3 players, the tournament had to deplore a number of early eliminations. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev and Grigor Dimitrov have all been eliminated.

In view of this rarity, the field has opened up enormously for the remaining top players. Of all the members of the top ten, only three are still in contention: Alexander Zverev (5th), Stefanos Tsitsipas (8th) and Hubert Hurkacz (9th).

When asked about his unusual situation, Stefanos Tsitsipas was not happy. Although he finds himself in a very favorable situation, the Greek was keen to stress that this hecatomb was anything but positive for tennis, sending a small message to the ATP's governing bodies: "This kind of thing hurts our sport a little, especially when it happens to the biggest players. Without them, the show just isn't the same. Obviously, there are the guys behind them, but tournaments like this deserve to have big names on the court. I think the increased number of days in the Masters 1000 plays a huge role and contributes to these players getting injured."
