Beaten from the start, Tsitsipas relativizes: "I'm concentrating on the beauty of life"

Against all expectations, Stefanos Tsitsipas fell at the first hurdle in Madrid. Despite the confidence he had built up since the start of the season on clay (title winner in Monte-Carlo, finalist in Barcelona), the Greek was unable to find the key on Saturday.

Faced with an unleashed Thiago Monteiro (90% first ball, 24 winners, 4 unforced errors, 4 aces), the world number 7 was forced to bow out.

In a press conference, the 2021 French Open finalist was philosophical: "I'm concentrating on the beauty of life. Tennis is there. I play tennis every day. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to play. There will be many days like this in, I hope, the next 15 years of my career. [...] I made a few mistakes. Maybe I wasn't 100% prepared for this match, whereas my opponent was. That's why he won."

Realistically Nadal might not play RG, I dont see him tarnishing his record if he knows he can't compete

You do not have to prove anything. You have played your part.

He's making a fool of himself. Call it a day and retire.

I disagree with most of you, if this really is his final year on tour I think he should play RG and make a farewell speech, regardless in which round he exits. We know, and he knows, he cannot win maj

Dear friends, I wasn't able to watch this another demolition of Rafael, but I strongly believe that clay is not his preferred surface. Probably is grass......since some people keep calling him goat.
