Difficult winner over Khachanov, Sinner is reassuring: "If it was worse than yesterday, I would have thought about not playing today"
Jannik Sinner had a tough time of it against Karen Khachanov on Tuesday. Faced with a determined opponent, the Italian was dominated for a long time before regaining control of the match (victory 5-7, 6-3, 6-3). Impressively realistic (2 break points converted out of three and 5 break points saved), the world number 2, visibly weakened by hip problems, came through.
Questioned by the press, Sinner admitted that he wasn't at his best physically, but sought to reassure his fans: "If it was worse than yesterday, I'd have thought about not playing today (Tuesday against Khachanov), but when I get the chance, I always try to overcome these kinds of situations. I'm certainly not at 100% physically. Tomorrow I have a day off, and that can help me."
This Thursday, he faces Felix Auger-Aliassime (Ruud's surprise loser in the Round of 16) in a quarter-final that is, to say the least, unexpected.
