Imperturbable Lehecka ends Nadal's story in Madrid

Imperturbable Lehecka ends Nadal's story in Madrid

This time, the tribute was not delayed. Jiri Lehecka, 22, delivered a match of the highest quality to topple a determined Nadal (7-5, 6-4 in 2h01). Although rather inconsistent, the Spaniard was able to hold his own and didn't burst physically despite the succession of matches. That didn't stop the Czech from claiming a victory he'll remember for a long time to come. Aggressive as ever, the Czech never let up in his pursuit of the Spaniard, who was often outmatched from the baseline. Taking the game by the scruff of the neck with his forehand, he was willing to play the game, even if it meant making mistakes at times (33 winners, 12 unforced errors).

In a tight first set, the world number 31 made the break at the right moment to finally conclude on his serve. Taking advantage of the Spaniard's slump, he went on a 5-game winning streak to take control of the match (7-5, 2-0). Extremely combative, Rafa hung on right to the end, but the Czech, buoyed by a devastating serve, didn't waver when it came to putting an end to the Majorquin's history in Madrid.

The Czech put in an absolutely stunning performance, and will forever be the last man to beat Nadal in Madrid.

Nadal, for his part, can leave the tournament satisfied. After a tournament of much better quality than in Barcelona, the Spaniard continues his rise to prominence. Of course, there will be no miracle coronation at the Caja Magica, and the emotion is bound to be enormous. That said, he still has several weeks to prepare for the French Open and the Olympic Games. The Spaniard will certainly be back on court at the Rome tournament before, why not, returning to the Porte d'Auteuil one last time.

In the meantime, the emotional Majorcan can enjoy the Mutua Madrid Open's tribute to him on the Court Manolo Santana.

But we can say one thing: Thank you Rafa, and don't go just yet!

What an insincere poser he is. We all know that rafa has been playing very badly and can be beaten by two dozen people... He is just trying to look good and to take the pressure off himself.
