We need to do something to make the Davis Cup more unique," says Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz, still competing at the ATP Finals in Turin, will also participate in the Davis Cup Final 8 from November 18 to 23 with Spain.
Asked about the withdrawals of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti from the Italian team, he spoke about the Davis Cup format.
"The Davis Cup is one of those events you have to get used to, because you play for your country and with your teammates; it's a completely different experience. It's one of the events where you feel the most privileged, because you represent your country.
I agree, something should be done, because you can't play it every year. The Davis Cup doesn't have the same value if it were played every two or three years: if that were the case, the players' commitment would be even greater, because it's a unique tournament. I will participate this year, yes. I want to win the Davis Cup one day, because it's a very important tournament for me.
Jannik has won it twice, Lorenzo too. I understand them; the season has been very long, and I understand they need an extra week to recover, take a vacation, do their pre-season preparation… it's logical and normal. I would say that something should be done to make the Davis Cup even more unique.
