"It's great to be in the top 10, it's not easy to stay there all the time," says Rybakina ahead of the WTA Finals
Elena Rybakina begins her campaign at the WTA Finals this Saturday against Amanda Anisimova, and expressed her joy at having played many more tournaments than last year, when the world No. 6 had withdrawn before many matches.
After a very strong second half of the season, Rybakina secured her spot for the Finals, which she will play for the third consecutive season. This year in Riyadh, the 26-year-old player will try to get past the group stage for the first time in her career.
Asked in a press conference about the keys to her current success, she felt that it was the sequence of matches that allowed her, unlike last year, to confidently build a good dynamic over time.
"I would say one goal has been achieved. I played the whole season, I didn't miss many matches, and physically, I think I stayed quite consistent. I didn't miss many tournaments and I played all year, so I clearly achieved that goal. What motivates me is just trying to be a little better every day, whether on the court or off.
It's really great to be in the top 10, because there are so many good players and it's not easy to stay there all the time. There are ups and downs, and the faster you get back on track, the more you stand out from the others. So there is always a certain consistency.
I try to visualize what I need to do on the court, the things that maybe worked in previous matches. And above all, you have to love what you do. That's already a success in itself," Rybakina told Tennis Up To Date.
