ATP Finals: De Minaur beats Fritz and hopes for an Alcaraz win to qualify
Everything is on the line tonight in Turin. Alex de Minaur, who defeated Fritz, is now counting on a victory from Alcaraz against Musetti to reach the Masters semi-finals.
He did it. Alex de Minaur overcame American Taylor Fritz (7-6, 6-3) in his third group match of the 2025 ATP Finals. Aggressive (24 winners) and effective on serve (83% of points won behind his first serve), the world number 7 secured his 4th hard-court victory against the 2024 edition's finalist.
But for the Australian, it's also a symbolic victory: his first against a top 10 player in 2025.
However, while this win is a mental boost for the 26-year-old player, it does not guarantee his qualification for the semi-finals. Indeed, he must now hope for a Carlos Alcaraz victory over Lorenzo Musetti tonight (starting at 8:30 PM local time).
For his part, the prodigy from El Palmar can secure the year-end world number one ranking and also the possibility of not facing his rival Sinner in the next round.
