Fritz's Regrets After His Defeat Against Alcaraz: I'm Obviously Frustrated Because I Feel Like I Had My Chance

Taylor Fritz came quite close to dominating Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals. The American will play for his semi-final qualification in his final group stage match.

Last year's runner-up, Fritz had started the 2025 Masters with a straight-sets victory over Lorenzo Musetti. The world number 6 followed that up on Tuesday with his second match, this time against Carlos Alcaraz.

In a match that was balanced for a long time, the 28-year-old player ultimately succumbed in three sets (6-7, 7-5, 6-3 in 2 hours and 47 minutes). He will thus play for his qualification against Alex De Minaur on Thursday. After the match, Fritz discussed his defeat against the world number 1 in a press conference.

"I did a lot of good things, especially in the first two sets. I think I made a lot of difficult shots and missed some easier ones. I played very aggressively to try and get shorter balls.

Sometimes, I didn't manage to do it, and he found good areas with incredible defense. I think that's the most difficult thing to do against him because, in our last two meetings, especially at the Six Kings Slam, I didn't even have time to look at the ball.

Today, I wasn't clinical enough to finish some important points. I have regrets. If I had hit some forehands better, I would have found myself a break up in the second set, which would have allowed me to serve for the match. I remember some points.

A game at 15-30 where I missed a forehand. I did the same thing at 30-30 and on one of the break points. I let the ball bounce when I should have hit a volley. There were many opportunities. I beat him recently. But in the last two matches, I didn't really have my chance.

I couldn't manage to be aggressive and he always controlled the game. Today, I had opportunities because I played well. I'm obviously frustrated because I feel like I had my chance," stated Fritz to Tennis World Italia.
