Sorana Cirstea trained by Sven Groeneveld from 2025

Sorana Cirstea will be back on the circuit with a new coach.

Absent from the courts since her premature first-round loss to Kartal at Wimbledon, the 34-year-old Romanian, now down to world No.70, will be coached by Sven Groeneveld from 2025.

"I can't wait to make my return to competition," she added on her Instagram account. The 59-year-old Dutchman has worked with the likes of Ana Ivanovic, Mary Pierce and Maria Sharapova.

He'll have to find the right words to help Cirstea get back on track, as she is on a six-match losing streak and hasn't won a match on the WTA Tour since the Rome tournament.

Unsurprisingly, Iga Swiatek got off to a very quiet start in Madrid. After an easy first-round victory (6-4, 6-1 over Xiyu Wang), the world number 1 did even better on Saturday. Up against Sorana Cirs...
