Alcaraz and Sinner Nominated for Laureus Best Athlete Award 2026
It's official: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been nominated in the "Best Athlete of the Year" category at the Laureus World Sports Awards 2026.
Founded in 1999, this annual awards ceremony aims to honor athletes and teams from around the world of sports.
Roger Federer holds the record with 6 trophies, while Tiger Woods remains the most nominated athlete to date (12 times).
Exceptional 2025 Campaigns
Alcaraz, the ATP world No. 1, racked up victories across courts worldwide (including Roland Garros and the US Open).
Sinner once again cemented his status among the global elite by winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
But the competition will be fierce: their rivals include iconic figures from other sports like Ousmane Dembélé (soccer), Marc Márquez (MotoGP), Tadej Pogačar (cycling), and Mondo Duplantis (pole vault).
Sabalenka Also Nominated
In the women's category, Aryna Sabalenka is also nominated for "Best Athlete of the Year."
The Belarusian tennis star faces off against legends and rising stars from athletics, swimming, and soccer: Aitana Bonmatí, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Faith Kipyegon, Katie Ledecky, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
Notably, Joao Fonseca and Amanda Anisimova are also nominated—Fonseca in "Breakthrough of the Year" and Anisimova in "Comeback of the Year."
