Australian Open: Halys and Jacquemot Ousted as French Hopes Fade in Melbourne
Two French players were scheduled early in the day at the Australian Open: Quentin Halys and Elsa Jacquemot. The Frenchman faced Daniil Medvedev, a player in strong form at the start of the season.
Halys began his match in the best possible way by winning the first-set tie-break 11-9 before securing an early break in the second set.
But the Russian did not concede defeat and quickly turned the tide. He ultimately prevailed 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 and will face Fabian Marozsan in the next round.
Jacquemot Overwhelmed
As for Jacquemot, she endured a very difficult match against Yulia Putintseva. In just 1 hour and 14 minutes of play, the Frenchwoman conceded a decisive score of 6-1, 6-2, converting only one break point out of six.
The Kazakh player will face Zeynep Sonmez in the third round.
