Australian Open Qualifying: Ferro, Paquet, and Tan Fall in Second Round
Three Frenchwomen still had hopes of competing in the first Grand Slam of the season. Fiona Ferro, Chloé Paquet, and Harmony Tan were the only French players remaining after the first round of Australian Open qualifying.
Unfortunately for French tennis, none of them managed to qualify this Wednesday. Ferro came the closest, but she ultimately fell to Linda Fruhvirtova (6-4, 3-6, 6-4).
Paquet Outclassed, Tan Falls to Minnen
As for Chloé Paquet, she couldn't back up her win over Kristina Mladenovic. Against Bai Zhuoxuan, the Frenchwoman managed only two small winners.
It wasn't enough to overcome the Chinese player, a former top 100 who used her protected ranking to enter the Melbourne qualifying (6-1, 6-2 in 1h15). Finally, Harmony Tan put up a spirited fight against Greet Minnen in the first set, but still lost (7-6, 6-3).
