Bencic Withdraws from BJK Cup Qualifiers with Switzerland
Next week, the spotlight will be on the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers, with eighteen nations competing for a spot in the Final 8. In groups of three countries, only the top team from each group will advance directly to the 2025 finals. The remaining twelve nations will then move on to playoffs.
However, another top player from Group D has been forced to withdraw. In the group featuring Poland, Switzerland, and Ukraine, Iga Swiatek recently confirmed her withdrawal, opting instead to start her clay season at the WTA 500 tournament in Stuttgart.
As for Switzerland, Belinda Bencic will not be able to participate, as she confirmed herself in a recent Instagram post:
"Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that, unfortunately, I’ve made the tough decision to withdraw from the BJK Cup qualifiers taking place next week in Poland.
My body needs rest and time to recharge after the first two months of the year, which demanded more effort and energy than I had anticipated and planned. These decisions are never easy, as there’s nothing better than representing Switzerland, and I can assure you I’ll be there for my country’s next commitments.
I wish the girls the best of success next week, and I’ll be supporting them from afar," wrote Bencic, who has climbed back to No. 41 in the rankings after her return from maternity leave.
