In the absence of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, Italy was able to rely on Matteo Berrettini, who was increasingly back to his best.
An infallible number 2, the Transalpine won all three of his singles matches, making him one of the main architects of Italy's qualification for the November finals.
After defeating Van de Zandschulp in his final match (3-6, 6-4, 6-4), the Wimbledon 2021 finalist appeared satisfied in his press conference.
Asked about Jannik Sinner's presence in the box, a smiling Berrettini declared: "Jannik put the pressure on me! (smiles).
He's been important like all the other guys, the whole team and the people who help us during this Davis Cup. See you in Malaga!"
