Cahill defends Djokovic: He was right to feel offended.

Jannik Sinner's co-coach and ESPN TV consultant, Darren Cahill, reflects on the controversy of the day at the Australian Open, with the boycott of Novak Djokovic's post-match interview.

Australian-born Cahill gave his opinion on the mockery of journalist Tony Jones: "He works for Nine News here in Melbourne. He hosts a show based on Australian soccer, which is a very popular sport.

It's a fun program. He's been in the TV industry for years.

I'm sure Tony was trying to be funny, but it wasn't appropriate. And I don't blame Novak for being offended.

Especially with what Novak went through during the Covid year, the way he was treated by the government and the fact that he was sent home without being able to play.

Novak was within his rights to demand an apology. What he did on the court makes perfect sense."

If you "tried to be funny" and that ended up as an offence, then, at list the "sorry, I didn't meant..." would be appropriate.

But, I don't agree that he was "trying to be funny"!
