Emma Raducanu Admits: 'My Rise Was Too Sudden' After Another Early Australian Open Exit
Eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open, Emma Raducanu faced another disappointment, extending a series of early exits that have piled up since her unexpected and resounding triumph at the 2021 US Open.
"It Was an Ascent That Was Too Sudden"
Asked about this challenging period and the need to refine certain aspects of her game to become a contender for major titles again, the British player responded:
"I think if, at 18, someone had told me I would win that night, no one would have really imagined it either. With such an achievement, there is inevitably, in a way, a dip afterward. It was an ascent that was too sudden to be sustainable from the start. I've accepted that.
All the challenges I've faced since, the fact of seeking solutions, learning from my mistakes and experiences... all of that had to happen one way or another when you win a Grand Slam at 18 coming through qualifying, when you were ranked 350th in the world two months earlier. I've learned a lot, that's for sure.
"I Think I Perform Better in Grand Slams"
I think there are a lot of adjustments ongoing. I'm gradually discovering what works for me. In Grand Slams, I think I perform better. I've also had some very tough draws, especially last year. I'm putting in the work daily and improving as a player, at least I believe so.
But yes, during those three weeks, my form was also incredible... so it's a balance. And I've accepted it."
