End of an Era: Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard Splits with Coach Emmanuel Planque After Four-Year Partnership
It's the end of a significant collaboration, lasting four years and marked by clear progress on the ATP Tour.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the world No. 57, announced this Sunday his split with his coach Emmanuel Planque, with whom he had been working since 2021.
At the time, the former coach of Lucas Pouille took "GMP" under his wing and guided a rapid ascent: in just over four seasons, the Frenchman climbed from outside the top 600 to a career-high world No. 29, achieved in February 2025.
A Slowing Momentum
After an encouraging start to the 2025 season, the trajectory has gradually stalled. Lacking significant results in recent months, Mpetshi Perricard has struggled to regain the consistency that characterized his rapid rise in the rankings.
"After four years of working together, my collaboration with Emmanuel Planque has come to an end. Manu, I thank you for the work accomplished and your total commitment, which have allowed me to grow, not only as a tennis player but also as a person. This stage will have meant a lot in my journey," wrote the Frenchman on Instagram.
Planque Future Coach of Kouamé?
Now, the question remains who will accompany the young Frenchman for the next phase of his career. On his side, Emmanuel Planque could bounce back quickly. According to L'Équipe, his recent presence in Montpellier with Moïse Kouamé's team suggests the beginnings of a new collaboration.
