Francisco Cerundolo discusses his relationship with tennis: "I don’t consider myself a slave to this sport"
For the second time in his career after 2022, Francisco Cerundolo will be in the semifinals of the Madrid Masters 1000.
Soon to return to the Top 20 (virtually ranked 18th), the Argentine took time during a press conference to talk about the Netflix documentary on Carlos Alcaraz. In one of the episodes, the world No. 3 speaks about his desire "not to be a slave to tennis," to which Cerundolo responded:
"I don’t consider myself a slave to this sport. Not at all. Of course, to reach where I am and where Carlos is, you have to put in the work for many hours and make a lot of effort. But I believe that, in the end, all the players here have chosen this path.
Maybe some became professionals because they’re talented and not necessarily fans, but most players have chosen this profession. They’re happy and know what it takes to get here. If you want to continue your career, you have to find a balance between the positive and negative things related to tennis and life.
Not everything is rosy, of course. Everyone has to find their balance and know what makes them happier. You have to dedicate time to it, like in any profession or field. Things don’t come magically."
