"I Feel Like It Lasted 10 Years": Anisimova Jokes After Her Revenge Against Pegula in Miami
A Revenge... Even If "It Doesn't Count"
Facing Jessica Pegula, her nemesis, the American finally managed to reverse a dynamic that had haunted her for five years. A 6-2, 7-5 victory.
However, it must be noted that this was "only" the Miami Invitational, an exhibition tournament.
"Yes, I feel like I've waited ten years... so it's really nice," she said with a smile.
Before immediately adding: "I'm joking, of course! But Jess is incredible, and it's always a very tough match, even in exhibition."
A Baseball Stadium Transformed for the Occasion
On the other side, Pegula suffered her first defeat against Anisimova, in an absolutely improbable setting: LoanDepot Park, usually dedicated to baseball, where spectators were chatting in all the stands as if they were attending an MLB game.
Pegula herself found it amusing:
"It really feels like a baseball game... and I love it."
Note that the day before, in New Jersey, Pegula had won 10-8 in a super tie-break during another exhibition match against Anisimova.
Below is the History of Their Rivalry
