‘I’m Not Ready Yet’: Kokkinakis Withdraws from Australian Open Singles Draw
Thanasi Kokkinakis is truly unlucky with injuries. As the main draw for the Australian Open was made overnight, the 29-year-old Australian, who withdrew before facing Valentin Vacherot in the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Adelaide, has ultimately pulled out of the season’s first Grand Slam.
Kokkinakis Will Try to Play Doubles in Melbourne
After a nearly blank 2025 season that ended in January, the world No. 670 underwent shoulder surgery and was making his competitive return in Adelaide.
Despite a gritty three-set win over Sebastian Korda, the pain ultimately took over. Kokkinakis posted a message on his social media to announce his withdrawal.
‘Unfortunately, after discussing with my team and doctors, I’ve made the decision to withdraw from the Australian Open in singles. After an incredibly tough year, this was the event I was looking forward to the most, but I’m not ready yet.
We’ll still try our luck in doubles,’ he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). The Seacombe Heights native hopes to participate in doubles, where he is expected to team up with Nick Kyrgios.
