Kyrgios abandonne en larmes à Indian Wells
Nick Kyrgios had been eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open, showing concerning physical signs, as he was returning from a significant wrist injury.
Moreover, he had been forced to stop his training two days ago due to wrist pain.
Unfortunately for the Australian, he was unable to finish his match against Botic van de Zandschulp, which counted for the first round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000.
Kyrgios ended in tears, which he explained in the post-match press conference: "I have no problem losing a match.
I've lost many times in my career. I guess it's just because of the amount of work I've put in and I'm still in so much pain with my wrist.
That's probably why I got a bit emotional at the end, because it's one of my favorite tournaments.
I didn't really have confidence in my ability to play today. Two days ago, in training, I had to stop because I felt pain in my wrist.
I thought I was fine on the court, but it gradually got worse. I started to feel sharp pain in my wrist.
I think the level was good, I played some great tennis and the first set was entertaining, I could have easily won it.
I don't know if I could have done anything different in my preparation."
It remains to be seen if Kyrgios will compete in the Miami tournament, where he is currently still registered.
On his side, van de Zandschulp will face Novak Djokovic in the next round.
