Marcinko wins the ITF Dubai against Zvonareva: the Croatian will make her debut in the top 100
An unprecedented final this Sunday at the ITF tournament in Dubai between the promising Petra Marcinko and the experienced Vera Zvonareva. The 20-year-old Croatian is fighting to make her first appearance in the WTA top 100, while the 41-year-old Russian made a surprising return to competition this week in the United Arab Emirates. This was the first meeting between the two women.
Marcinko confirms her excellent season and wins the ITF Dubai
The solid Croatian quickly took control in this match. Despite a slight surge of pride from Zvonareva in the middle of the second set, Marcinko was the best player on the court and she ultimately prevailed (6-3, 6-3 in 1h16), securing her debut in the top 100 starting Monday.
In great form in this second half of the season, she thus clinches her fifth title since July, and the second consecutive one after winning in Fujairah last week. A streak that brings her total to ten consecutive victories, and 16 wins in her last 18 matches.
