Medvedev Stands Firm on Russian Nationality: 'Where You Are Born Matters'
While many Russian players (Potapova, Polina Kudermetova, Maria Timofeeva) have used the offseason to change their sporting nationality, others remain loyal to their flag.
After defeating Quentin Halys in the second round of the Australian Open, Daniil Medvedev was asked about this exodus of Russian players to other nations.
"I Have Never Considered Changing Nationality"
"As I've said before, I respect and understand everyone's choices. It's something you can do in sports, and it's probably easier for us than for other people.
Personally, I've never thought about it. The place where you are born has importance; it represents something. Politics and those kinds of considerations are separate. So no, I have never considered changing nationality.
Many have made that choice, and I remain friends with them. It's up to them."
