Mpetshi Perricard among the top five players of 2024
OptaAce has released a ranking featuring the five players who have made the most progress in 2024, i.e. who have gained the most places in the ATP rankings.
The leader of this ranking is Jacob Fearnley. The Brit started 2024 ranked 646th in the world, and ended the year 99th, a rise of 547 places.
Second is Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The Frenchman was 205th on January 1, 2024, and finished the year in 31st place, thanks in particular to a title at the ATP 250 in Lyon and the ATP 500 in Basel.
Third is Juncheng Shang. The Chinese player moved up 133 places in 2024, starting the year 183rd and ending it 50th.
Jakub Mensik is fourth in the ranking. The Czech ended the year ranked 48th in the world, having started it at 167th. Quarter-finalist at the Shanghai Masters 1000 and finalist at the ATP 250 in Doha, the 19-year-old is on the rise.
Rounding off the rankings is Bu Yunchaokete. The Chinese player was ranked 171st in the world at the start of 2024, and ended the year 65th.
The presence of two Chinese players in this ranking shows the fine overall progress of tennis in China.
