Musetti Already Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season: "I Will Have to Train and Prepare Well"
Lorenzo Musetti played the final match of his season on Thursday night at the ATP Finals against Carlos Alcaraz. Eliminated from the Masters in the group stage and withdrawing from the Davis Cup Final 8 next week, the world number 9, who is coming off the best season of his career, has set his first objectives for the coming year.
Musetti is now on vacation. The Italian, who put in a tremendous amount of effort in recent weeks, pushed himself to the limit to qualify for the Turin Masters, where he was eliminated after his defeat to world number one Carlos Alcaraz.
A finalist at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 and a semi-finalist at the Madrid, Rome, and especially Roland-Garros tournaments this season, the 23-year-old player has had his best season since the start of his career. Asked about what he wants to improve most next year, the man himself gave his answer.
"The goal is to try to improve in terms of results and especially in terms of my physical condition. I had some problems that kept me off the court for two months, and that had consequences for the grass season (he had only played one match, his first-round loss at Wimbledon to Nikoloz Basilashvili).
That will be the biggest improvement to make. I will have to train and prepare well. I don't yet know how to get closer to the level of Jannik (Sinner) and Carlos (Alcaraz), I will have to figure that out.
I think they are both different, both in their tennis qualities and their physical condition. What impresses me most about them is their movement, their recovery, and how they handle rallies. The way they transition from defense to offense is what I want to improve for next year," Musetti thus stated to Tennis World Italia.
