Musetti ready to challenge the new "Big 2": the Italian reveals his plan to catch up with Alcaraz and Sinner
Thanks to a highly successful clay court tour (final in Monte-Carlo, semi-finals in Madrid, Rome, and Roland-Garros), Lorenzo Musetti has established himself as a solid member of the top 10.
However, the Italian has repeatedly fallen to the new Big 2 (Alcaraz and Sinner) installed at the top of the rankings. Trailing in his confrontations against the two young champions, he plans, for the upcoming season, to be able to challenge them at major events.
"To close the gap, I have to work very hard physically"
"Against Jannik, I've only played once, at the US Open. It was a pretty tough defeat because I couldn't express myself (6-1, 6-4, 6-2). I was completely below his level.
Against Carlos, I think I played very good tennis, especially on clay and in some matches, I was ahead on the score, like in Monte-Carlo and at Roland-Garros. But I got injured each time.
I think to close the gap with these two, I have to work very hard physically, which I am doing, and have more time to prepare. Then I have a new coach, José Perlas, and I think that can bring me something," said Musetti on Gill Gross's YouTube channel.
