Paire talks about his role as a commentator during Roland-Garros: "I already see my role with fewer insults!"
Benoît Paire will be one of the consultants for the digital channel france.tv during the Roland-Garros fortnight.
Speaking to *Le Parisien*, the Avignon native opened up about this new role:
"At the beginning of the year, I told Daryl Monfils (his agent) that if things weren’t going well on the court, I might enjoy being on the other side.
It’s a tournament I love, I know all the players, and it keeps me a little connected to the tour, watching matches, seeing my friends… It also helps me think about something else and avoids overthinking.
I thought it was a super interesting project. We had several meetings to define my role, and I was excited. But it had to interest me. If it was just about commentating on a match… (laughs) I already see my role with fewer insults! I imagine something quite simple.
I’m a player, I try to understand why players make mistakes, to share the good and bad choices with the audience, and I’m pretty forgiving. I want to be constructive and not spend my time criticizing. I think I’ll have an objective eye."
