Paula Badosa's Australian Open Exit: 'I'm Struggling to Feel Like Myself'
Paula Badosa has been eliminated from the Australian Open. The Spaniard, who reached the semifinals of this same tournament last year, did not experience the same success this time.
Defeated by Oksana Selekhmeteva in the second round (6-4, 6-4), the world No. 26 will fall out of the top 60 after the tournament. The former world No. 2 discussed her loss in a press conference.
"My Body Is Reacting Well, That's Good News"
"I'm obviously not happy. I think she certainly deserves credit, but I also think I did what was necessary to earn this defeat. I didn't play very well, I'm having a bit of trouble feeling like myself, but I suppose that's part of the process.
I'm physically fine, my body is reacting well, that's good news. Ultimately, after everything that's happened, that's the most important thing, so I have to stick with that. Now, I need to string together several matches in a row to feel like myself again as quickly as possible.
"The Season Has Just Started, My Hopes Are Intact"
Obviously, the season has just started, my hopes are intact. I'm keeping the same goals. For now, I'm far from achieving them. When I'm competing, I still feel far from the desired level.
In training, I feel better, that's true, so I hope to be able to translate that into matches soon. I need several months, unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened to me, I've been in this situation before.
It's something I know perfectly well, I know what I have to go through," Badosa assured the media, according to statements collected by Punto de Break.
