Poland Overpowers Australia in United Cup Quarters to Join USA in Semifinals
The last quarterfinal of the United Cup pitted Australia against the United States. The match got off to a terrible start for the green and gold, with Maya Joint falling in straight sets to Iga Swiatek 6-1, 6-1.
The men's matchup between Alex de Minaur and Hubert Hurkacz was far more competitive: the pair went to a third set, where the Australian prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
For the decisive mixed doubles featuring Storm Hunter, JP Smith, Jan Zielinski and Katarzyna Kawa, the Polish team took the first set 6-4 in a tight contest before routing the Australians 6-0 in the second.
Qualified for the semifinals, Poland will face the United States.
