The last quarterfinal of the United Cup pitted Australia against the United States. The match got off to a terrible start for the green and gold, with Maya Joint falling in straight sets to Iga Swiatek 6-1, 6-1.

The men's matchup between Alex de Minaur and Hubert Hurkacz was far more competitive: the pair went to a third set, where the Australian prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

For the decisive mixed doubles featuring Storm Hunter, JP Smith, Jan Zielinski and Katarzyna Kawa, the Polish team took the first set 6-4 in a tight contest before routing the Australians 6-0 in the second.

Qualified for the semifinals, Poland will face the United States.

Despite top-10 ATP rankings and consistent excellence, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gaël Monfils, Richard Gasquet, and Gilles Simon never claimed a Grand Slam title, enduring mockery from French media amid Big 3 dominance. A deep dive into a talented generation defined by sky-high expectations and brutal competition.

As much as I love watching Alcaraz at his best, I'd love to see Alex taking this, he's such a tryer, and getting married and his humour and humility...

Favoritism?

Last year: Sinner seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 2.

This year: Alcaraz seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 3.

That means: 7 matches in 15 days for Alcaraz, 7 in 13 days for Sinner; and no rest day for Sinner between quarter and semis, 1 full day rest for Alcaraz.

Also, on the first very hot day, the organizers schedule Sinner...
