On his podcast Nothing Major, Sam Querrey debated with Steve Johnson about who the best player of the year 2025 is.

For Querrey, even though Iga Swiatek did not finish the year as world number one, she improved on fast surfaces, which now proves she can win any tournament.

A dominance on clay that now extends to other surfaces

He stated: "Personally, I choose Iga Swiatek. It was always said that she dominated on clay, that she was rather weak on grass, that she would never have a good run at Wimbledon, and then she won Wimbledon this year and completely changed the game.

She also won in Cincinnati, a tournament historically known for its fast hard courts, so I feel like now, when we talk about her game, we say she can win on any surface, and that started this year after her Wimbledon victory."
