Rakotomanga Rajaonah Routed in Straight Sets at Hobart Qualies, Jeanjean Withdraws Due to Illness
Two Frenchwomen were entered in the qualifying rounds of the WTA 250 Hobart tournament. Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah faced Julia Grabher, world No. 92. A tough match for the player who won the São Paulo tournament last year.
The Austrian prevailed in two sets (6-3, 6-1) and will next face Caty McNally, who meanwhile defeated Kaja Juvan (6-2, 7-6), for a spot in the main draw.
Jeanjean fails to take the court
For her part, Léolia Jeanjean was unable to compete. Scheduled to face Renata Zarazua, the Frenchwoman, struck by illness, withdrew at the last moment. Hiroko Kuwata replaced her, but the Japanese could do nothing against the Mexican, world No. 77 (6-0, 6-1).
Zarazua now awaits a matchup against Simona Waltert to try to reach the main draw. Thus, Elsa Jacquemot and Varvara Gracheva will be the only two Frenchwomen left in Hobart.
