Rune on Alcaraz: "I was more serious than him as a junior"
Born in 2003, Alcaraz and Rune belong to the same generation. Rivals since their junior days, the two players have known each other for a long time and have since faced off four times on the main tour (2-2). In an interview with tennis.com, the Dane reflected on their rivalry:
"I don’t want to say anything controversial, but I was a bit more serious than him as a junior. But that was before—now it’s different. In youth teams, you could see his potential, his talent, everything. He was an incredible player, and of course, Spaniards live differently from Danes. It’s a different type of personality.
He’s a guy who loves playing tennis. It’s great to see, and for my part, I think his mindset is normal for all players. You don’t feel the same motivation every day, but that’s normal. Some mornings you dig a little deeper and find more energy, and others it’s harder, but that’s part of life, whether it’s tennis or a regular job."
