Russian phenom Andreeva admits: "I felt enormous pressure after my titles"
The revelation of the season, Mirra Andreeva has already won two WTA 1000 tournaments at just 18 years old. But behind her rapid success, the Russian confesses she had to learn to handle overwhelming pressure.
Andreeva has established herself as one of the best players in the world this season while being only 18. The Russian had an impressive first half of the season by winning two consecutive WTA 1000 events in Dubai and Indian Wells.
These titles were followed by intense media pressure as she explained to the WTA:
"After winning these titles, I felt much more pressure and expectations. People expected me to win every tournament, which was obviously impossible.
But it's an experience I had to go through to keep the positive and learn from my mistakes. I strive to stay positive, maintain a good mindset and try to enjoy the game, to do what I want on the court without overthinking."
For the remainder of the season, the young Russian is now aiming for qualification for the WTA Finals. She is currently seventh in the Race:
"It would mean a tremendous amount to me because I'm only 18. I'm still very young, so qualifying and playing against seven other great players would be amazing. It would be a fantastic challenge for me. I'll do my best to be there."
