Second WTA quarterfinal for Rakotomanga at the São Paulo tournament
The last remaining French player in the WTA 250 São Paulo tournament after the early eliminations of Léolia Jeanjean and Yasmine Mansouri, Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah continues her run and will play in the quarterfinals.
The 19-year-old player, ranked 214th in the world, defeated Victoria Rodriguez, a Mexican qualifier (7-5, 6-1 in 1 hour and 39 minutes). After a miraculous comeback against Ana Sofia Sanchez in the previous round—where she was down 5-0 in the third set—Rakotomanga Rajaonah secured a more straightforward victory this time.
The left-hander qualifies for her second quarterfinal on the main tour, having reached the same stage earlier this season at the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, where she had to go through qualifying.
This win also allows her to return to the top 200. To reach the semifinals, the Frenchwoman will now have to defeat either Panna Udvardy or Ana Candiotto.
