Shuai Zhang's unpredictable comeback in Beijing!
Tennis really isn't a predictable sport.
After 24 consecutive defeats and not having won a match since January 2023 (WTA 250 Lyon), Shuai Zhang, now ranked 595th in the world, has won four matches in a row to qualify for the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Beijing.
Invited as a bit of a surprise by the Chinese tournament organizers, the 35-year-old bluffed her way through.
Having already knocked out two seeded players, Emma Navarro in the second round (6-4, 6-2) and Magdalena Frech in the round of 16 (6-4, 6-2), Zhang is completely back on home soil and will now attempt to stop Paula Badosa in the next round.
Irresistible as she is, she will be at least 249th in the world at the next ranking, a jump of 346 places.
