"Such a champion should never be written off," Rusedski discusses Djokovic's chances in Grand Slams
Will Novak Djokovic win the coveted 25th Grand Slam title he has been chasing for two years now? The Serbian, still in the ATP top 5 at 38 years old, has shown exceptional consistency in the four major tournaments of the 2025 season, reaching the semifinals each time.
However, his last Major triumph dates back to the 2023 US Open, and the world's two best players, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, have been sharing the major titles in this category for two seasons now.
Former British professional player who reached world No. 4, Greg Rusedski believes that, despite his age, the Serbian legend must still be taken seriously in these major events, even if it seems complicated for him to beat the Italian and the Spaniard in the same tournament in a best-of-five sets format.
"If he finds himself in the final against Sinner, anything can happen"
"He is still the third best player in the world, even if the ranking doesn't show it. Can he beat Alcaraz and Sinner back-to-back in a Grand Slam? Probably not. Maybe at Wimbledon, but if he still enjoys this challenge, why not try to achieve it.
The biggest disappointment for Novak (Djokovic) this year came when he beat Alcaraz at the Australian Open and then had to withdraw during his semifinal against Zverev due to an injury. If he finds himself in a straight-set final against Sinner, anything can happen.
Now, he probably needs a bit of luck to win a Major because to beat these two guys consecutively... I don't know. What I do know is that such a champion should never be written off. I have underestimated Novak in the past, and he has proven that you can always count on him," Rusedski thus stated to Tennis365.
