Svitolina moved by the American public: "Since the meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelensky, I have received a lot of support"
Performing well since the start of Indian Wells, Elina Svitolina has qualified for the quarterfinals. The Ukrainian defeated Jessica Pegula in three sets (5-7, 6-1, 6-2) in the previous round.
Facing Mirra Andreeva, the Ukrainian is aware that playing against a Russian in the current geopolitical context is complicated.
Asked during a press conference, the 30-year-old player responded to questions about a post she shared on social media. The Ukrainian wanted to thank the American public for their support:
"Since the meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelensky, I have received many messages of support from the American people. Many have expressed their love and support for Ukrainians.
Knowing that I have played against three Americans, it is something extraordinary and truly special."
Svitolina also discusses the importance of family in her life as a professional athlete. She mentions the need to mentally disconnect and relieve the pressure generated by tennis.
The Ukrainian also emphasizes that her loved ones are a real source of motivation for her matches:
"There is a time for training and recovery and a time to completely disconnect from everything. Being with my daughter and Gaël (Monfils) here.
Those moments make me feel better and help me regain energy. It pushes me to play well for my country."
