"Tennis still has to go in this direction," Medvedev reacts to upcoming changes in the ATP calendar
The ATP calendar will undergo new upheavals in the coming years. A new Masters 1000 will be held in Saudi Arabia starting in 2028. As president of the organization, Andrea Gaudenzi announced that he wants to further reduce the number of ATP 250 tournaments during the year, which has already dropped from 38 to 29 in recent months.
Medvedev approves Gaudenzi's proposal
To make room for this tenth Masters 1000, which will be launched within three years, Gaudenzi wants to further decrease this number. When asked about it, Daniil Medvedev gave his opinion and agrees with the proposal made by the Italian leader in recent days.
"We don't have a say, so I just receive the information and I learned about this change at the same time as you. Someone wrote something about it, and I read it. In principle, I am in favor of having fewer tournaments in general and more important tournaments, and for people to get more benefits from them, whether in money or points. I think it's easier to win four tournaments of the 250 category than a single Masters 1000.
And you get the same number of points, so the more Masters 1000 and Grand Slams there are, the less time and desire people will have to play other tournaments. However, I really like ATP 250 category tournaments, but I think tennis still has to go in this direction," he stated to the local media Championnat.
