After ten years as chairman of the WTA, American Steve Simon announced to the league’s board of directors his decision to retire at the end of the season. Initially a member of the board, the 70-year-old became CEO in 2015 following the surprise resignation of Canadian Stacey Allaster.
A former mixed doubles player, Simon played a significant role in the development of women's tennis in Asia during his tenure. However, following the Peng Shuai incident in 2021, he decided to remove all tournaments held in China from the women's calendar.
