There must be other guys": Tiafoe wants to challenge Alcaraz and Sinner
Despite a difficult period, Tiafoe keeps an eye on the top. Inspired by Alcaraz's consistency and Sinner's regularity, the American has set himself the mission of becoming one of the few capable of challenging them.
On a streak of four consecutive defeats, Frances Tiafoe has fallen back to 29th in the world rankings. The American, despite reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, has not been able to establish himself among the contenders for the biggest titles.
In an interview with the Olympic Games website, Tiafoe acknowledged that he still intends to disrupt the hierarchy imposed by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner:
"There are other guys who need to join them. I'm not saying beat them, but there must be other guys and that motivates me. I wonder: where is that third or fourth guy?
Djokovic doesn't count, he's 40 years old. I love him, but you can't include him. He's a GOAT, the greatest player of all time. But he's not in the same category.
Who are the other two players who could be there and beat those guys? Like Novak and Andy (Murray) were, before Novak did what he did. There are plenty of guys who could be those guys, right? That really motivates me.
Everyone's style is different. But the most important thing is the intensity and speed at which they play. With Jannik, you know what you're going to get from him every day.
Alcaraz is more like me, in the sense that his talent is more spectacular, but he brings the same effort every day. If I can do more, by training with higher intensity, everything will be fine.
