Tien, the future star who impresses Medvedev: a meteoric rise between two Next Gen Finals!
Learner Tien ended the 2024 season in a fine manner. The American was on the verge of the Top 100 and had been a pleasant surprise at the Next Gen ATP Finals, defeated in the final by Joao Fonseca.
In 2025, he returns to this competition with a very different status: he is now world number 28 and won his first ATP title in Metz a few weeks ago.
A thunderous start to the season
He started the year perfectly by qualifying for the Australian Open and scored a very nice victory over Daniil Medvedev in the second round, an opponent he would beat again a few months later in Beijing.
His run in Melbourne ended in the round of 16 against Lorenzo Sonego, but it could foreshadow a promising season ahead.
"He senses the game like few others"
Medvedev had said about him: "Tien is an incredible player: without having a great serve, he is number 30 at 19 years old and continues to improve. He senses the game like few others. Many hit hard and rely on their serve, he plays without that."
Tien will therefore arrive in Jeddah, the host city of the Next Gen Finals, as a favorite. At only 20 years old, the protégé of Michael Chang will be one of the players to watch in the 2026 season.
