Underwent right elbow surgery, Zheng withdraws from the US Open
Qinwen Zheng will miss the US Open (August 24 - September 7) following her right elbow surgery.
The Chinese player, who had already planned to miss several weeks of competition, has officially withdrawn from the last Grand Slam of the year. She will lose the points from her quarterfinal finish obtained last year.
Zheng hopes to return to competition in September during the final phase of the BJK Cup (September 16-21) in Shenzhen. She will also have many points to defend during the Asian tour, including a semifinal in Beijing, a final in Wuhan, a title in Tokyo, and a final at the Masters.
Her withdrawal allows Leolia Jeanjean, ranked 99th in the world, to enter the draw without going through the qualifications. The French player will participate for the second time in her career after 2022.
