Wawrinka revisits his statements regarding the Sinner case: "There hasn't been a good image of our sport in recent years."
Sinner is currently suspended for three months due to a positive test for clostebol a year ago during Indian Wells.
The Italian has been allowed to return to competition on May 4, 2025, for the Rome Masters 1000.
Wawrinka had posted on social media on February 15. The Swiss player reacted to the event with a statement: "I no longer believe in clean sport."
Currently at the Naples Challenger, he wanted to clarify his remarks in an interview with Corriere dello Sport:
"It's a difficult topic, it's not easy to explain everything in detail. So much has happened in tennis regarding players in recent years. There hasn't been a good image of our sport, and I hope the situation will improve.
If we look at last year, two world number ones tested positive. And we, the players, only found out several months later.
What we are asking for is complete transparency. I hope things will improve for tennis, that they will move forward in a different way.
Ultimately, we just want great matches. We don't want to see anyone leave our sport, especially not the world number one. We want transparency; that's the only thing that matters."
