Zverev benefits from Cerundolo's withdrawal in Toronto, Popyrin still in contention for a Canadian double

After the qualifications of Karen Khachanov and Alex Michelsen earlier in the day, two more players advanced to the quarterfinals of the Toronto Masters 1000 overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

First, Alexander Zverev held his ground. The German, seeded No. 1 in Canada due to the absence of Sinner and Alcaraz, took advantage of Francisco Cerundolo's withdrawal due to an abdominal injury early in the second set (6-4, 1-0 ret.).

Having lost to the Argentine in their three previous meetings, Zverev finally overcame Cerundolo for the first time in four encounters, though it’s likely not the way he would have preferred to secure his spot.

For a place in the semifinals, he will face defending champion Alexei Popyrin, who remains in contention to achieve a double—a feat not seen in Canada since Rafael Nadal in 2018 and 2019.

The Australian, who was on a three-match losing streak before returning to Canada, has proven he can rise to the occasion in this tournament.

After victories against Nicolas Arseneault and Daniil Medvedev, the world No. 26 rallied past Holger Rune (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) and reached the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 for the fourth time in his career (Cincinnati 2023, Montreal 2024, Monte-Carlo 2025, and Toronto 2025).

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.

How about leavin...

It's a shame that so many matches are being canceled. TT ,you are destroying your game ,and thereby killing your app. I don't know how many matches others have had canceled , but I'm at 3 and it's only thursday.

As a long time player and lover of this game , I don't know how much of this I can tolerate. For example I waited hours last night for you to confirm my win and post my points. Every ot...

This week I have used all my formulas and best guesses to try to achieve the high score jimandlori958 set in our last competition. I am two games short because of cancelations and I need all wins to get there.

Grenier def Ysu 6-2 , 6-2 at Kobe today and the TT canceled the match.

An impressive win.. Congrats to our winner this week, jimandlori958 and with a score that could not be caught or matched. I don't remember a 56 in a while with our group. Nice to see everyone using the 2 point predictions. Can't win without 'em.
