Bucsa defeats Frech at Merida 2026 – Final

1589 views • Il y a 4 jours
Cristina Bucsa claimed the Merida trophy with a resilient 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Magdalena Frech. The two-hour, 15-minute contest on Mexican hard courts saw the Spaniard hold her nerve in the deciding set to overcome the world No. 57.

This victory represents a remarkable reversal of form for the world No. 63. Entering Merida, Bucsa had suffered four consecutive first-round exits, falling to opponents like Ella Seidel and Dayana Yastremska earlier in February. Her ability to reset and deliver a title-winning run highlights significant mental fortitude.

Bucsa’s path to the championship was underscored by a career-defining performance in the semifinals, where she dispatched world No. 7 Jasmine Paolini in straight sets. That victory, combined with earlier wins over Donna Vekic and Zeynep Sonmez, solidified her dominance throughout the week.

For Frech, the loss concludes a physically demanding campaign. The Polish contender spent over five hours on court in her previous two rounds combined, including a nearly three-hour marathon against Marie Bouzkova in the quarterfinals and a tough three-setter against Shuai Zhang.
