French Open day 1: Who said what
Who said what on the first day of the French Open at Roland Garros on Sunday:
"I will try to catch as much as I can from that match. I think everyone will want to see what will happen."
-- Novak Djokovic on Rafael Nadal's first-round match against Alexander Zverev on Monday.
"He is not seeded and he has not maybe played the way he used to play on clay, but if he is physically fit, I'm not going to call him a dark horse, but he is going to be up there also in my eyes as one of the favourites to do well. His record speaks for itself here."
-- Two-time runner-up Casper Ruud on the title chances of Nadal.
"In a different time maybe the results would have been a bit different. But yeah, I'm proud of the results that I had here."
-- Andy Murray after his French Open career was ended by Stan Wawrinka.
"He achieved everything a player could achieve in tennis. He's amazing champion, amazing guy."
-- Wawrinka on Murray.
"I don't need too many matches to get to 100 percent. My forearm is getting better and better. That is something good for me."
-- Carlos Alcaraz, whose build-up has been hit by a right arm injury, after thrashing American J.J. Wolf.
"If everything goes well, we are going to play doubles together here."
-- Alcaraz confirms he is planning to play doubles with Nadal at the Paris Olympics.
"She's taking a lot of steps. It's kind of funny, because she wants to run. So it's almost like her mind's working faster than her legs are, and often I have to catch her because it feels like she's going to straight-out start sprinting."
-- Naomi Osaka on her 10-month-old daughter Shai, who she said took her first steps earlier this week.
