Rybakina and Pegula make successful Wimbledon debuts

A successful start for Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula. Against opponents well within their reach, they reached the second round.

Buoyed by her new-found confidence following her triumphant comeback in Berlin, where she won the title, the world number 5 showed all her mastery to crush Krueger in just over 40 minutes (6-2, 6-0).
Untouchable on serve and very aggressive in her play, Pegula gave her compatriot a real tennis lesson and joins Wang, ranked 42nd in the world, in the second round.

For her part, the world number 4 and Wimbledon 2022 winner had little difficulty in reaching the next round. Up against the modest Ruse (152nd, qualifier), the Kazakh put her power and sense of play to good use, winning very comfortably in just 1 hr 10 of play (6-3, 6-1).

In the next round, she faces Laura Siegmund, a player still well within her reach.
