Zverev affair - "If he is found guilty, measures will be taken" explains Reyes-Varela (ATP Council member)

It was one of the extra-sporting events of the Australian Open in January. Accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend, Alexander Zverev is about to go on trial (from May 26). Questioned by journalists on the subject, the world number 5 has always pleaded innocence, accusing the plaintiff of slander.

As his trial (which he will not attend) draws ever closer, the subject is back on the table. Indeed, some tennis fans are questioning the legitimacy of the German champion retaining his seat on the ATP Players' Council.

When asked about the controversy, Miguel Reyes-Varela, ranked 69th in the world in doubles and a member of the ATP Players' Council, explained that he thought it best to wait for the verdict: "I wanted to know the position of the institution (the ATP) and how it was going to act. The ATP told me that, ultimately, there's a legal process that Sascha himself will have to resolve, and we'll see with the final verdict. If he's found innocent, imagine him being removed from the Board right now. That would be somewhat unfair, wouldn't it? If he's found guilty, action will be taken."
