Alcaraz goes from strength to strength to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros!
Carlos Alcaraz delivered his most complete match of the tournament. After a decent first round and a slightly worrying second match, he put the squeeze on a very inconsistent Sebastian Korda (6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in 2h40).
Without offering his most flamboyant tennis, the world number 3 clearly took things up a notch. With more solidity on his serve (73% of points won on the first ball) and a perfect distribution of play from his baseline (38 winners, 27 unforced errors), he reached the last 16 after a convincing three-set victory.
Although the Spaniard will have to remain vigilant with regard to the condition of his right arm, this victory is reassuring, both in terms of the level of tennis he played and the way in which he handled the important points, particularly the tie-break in the second set.
For a place in the quarter-finals, the 21-year-old will face the winner of the match between Auger-Aliassime and Shelton. This duel will come to an end tomorrow due to inclement weather (the game was stopped at 5-4 for the Canadian in the first set).
