Swept aside by Paolini, Garcia is already leaving Madrid

Swept aside by Paolini, Garcia is already leaving Madrid

In Madrid, Caroline Garcia fell back into her old ways. Opposed to Jasmine Paolini (13th in the world and title-holder in Dubai this year), the Frenchwoman delivered a match that was far too uneven for her to hope for anything. Irregular on serve and in the rallies, she was unable to find the keys to stopping the game of a very confident Italian.

With less than a month to go before Roland Garros, the French No.1 is not reassuring and will have to do better in Rome.

As for Paolini, she will face the unpredictable Mira Andreeva in the last 16. The 16-year-old Russian youngster, already eighth in last year's final, perfectly contained a disappointing Marketa Vondrousova (7-5, 6-1).

Would love to see Nicolas get the win & collect his 1st ATP MASTERS 1OOO title & and trophy. I think that he has a chance if he can win the first set. 🤔

Amazing defence at the start of the 2nd set, Aryna seemed to fall away after failing to break. Well played Iga.
